ChipMOS was originated from the back-end factory of Mosel Vitelic, Inc. ("Mosel"), a leading Taiwanese manufacturer of semiconductors. In 1997, Mosel spun off its back end operation into ChipMOS TECHNOLOGIES INC., a joint venture between Mosel, Siliconware Precision Industries Co. Ltd., and others.
As part of a restructuring, ChipMOS TECHNOLOGIES (Bermuda) LTD. was established in 2000 and the holders of shares in ChipMOS TECHNOLOGIES, INC. executed a Purchase and Subscription Agreement to transfer shares to ChipMOS Bermuda.
MOSEL's back-end factory spun off into ChipMOS TECHNOLOGIES, INC., Taiwan in August
Broke ground for the new testing/assembly buildings in July/ September
Passed ISO 9002 (Hsinchu fab.) and ISO 14001 (Hsinchu fab.) in September/ November
